The Campaign for Greener Arbitrations shortlisted for the GAR Award for Best Development

We are eagerly awaiting the announcement of the winners of the 2020 GAR Awards as the Campaign for Greener Arbitrations has been shortlisted in the Best Development category.

The awards ceremony will take place on 9 July 2020 and, for the first time, will take place virtually. Looking back over this year so far, it seems almost incredible that in January we were referring to international arbitration practitioners ‘having flight pride when we should have flight shame’ and promising to send one of our lovely flight shame badges to every practitioner who did not take a flight. Our research found that a staggering 75% of carbon emissions generated during the course of an international arbitration was due to air travel. So we applaud GAR’s virtual awards ceremony even though it arises as a result of horrific circumstances. Looking forward, the question for all of us is how the experience of lockdown is going to change us and whether that change is sustainable. Watch this space.
